This is, realistically, the one thing that you need to play Dungeons and Dragons, and it is a marvellous thing。 I cannot overstate the amount of joy that I've had from this game over the years and I recommend it to anybody who has a vague interest in fantasy, role-play, or just hanging about and playing a silly game with your friends。 Sure, there are other systems, and other editions of this system, that may be better in specific circumstances, but for ease of access to get into this very specia This is, realistically, the one thing that you need to play Dungeons and Dragons, and it is a marvellous thing。 I cannot overstate the amount of joy that I've had from this game over the years and I recommend it to anybody who has a vague interest in fantasy, role-play, or just hanging about and playing a silly game with your friends。 Sure, there are other systems, and other editions of this system, that may be better in specific circumstances, but for ease of access to get into this very special experience, this is what you need。 。。。more

While not quite my cup of tea, it is the best D20 system i have encountered so far。 If you have ever wanted to get into D&D, then 5th edition is a good one to start on。

Yo he venido aquí a pasarlo bien y a hacer que los personajes de mis jugadores (seguramente unos parguelas a los que voy a querer mucho) se conviertan en héroes, puede que no los que necesitamos, pero sí los que merecemos

Awesome book, and amazing quality on these hardcovers! So happy I found the starter box set with all 3 on sale。 Time to check out the Monster Manual!

Vaguely points at the book - 'I read all them rulez, man。 Easy' - Proceeds to roll initiative with d4 on her lvl5 paladin with AC 10, forgets his extra attack and healing options, dies in a 2 round battle with a three-legged street cat。 Somewhere in the background, her poor DM sobs in misery。 Vaguely points at the book - 'I read all them rulez, man。 Easy' - Proceeds to roll initiative with d4 on her lvl5 paladin with AC 10, forgets his extra attack and healing options, dies in a 2 round battle with a three-legged street cat。 Somewhere in the background, her poor DM sobs in misery。 。。。more

Wow。 I played AD&D back when it was just D&D and sold in a box。 Hell, I own the covetted Deity and Demigods manual that includes copyrighted materials。I haven't played D&D in 25+ years or so? Yeah, the core 3 books and dice! That being said, wow。 The game has changed a lot but not so much as to be unrecognizable。 But the level of detail is overwhelming。 I still plan on introducing my kids to the game。。。 we have local family that plays it, so hopefully they can help out。 But the complexity of the rules。。。The key to remember is that these are just "guides" and "suggestions"。。。Is White Wolf still popular? 。。。more

Player's Handbook by James Wyatt is the only Dungeons & Dragons book that all players will need to have read even a fraction of at some point。 Whether you are a seasoned veteran or a curious newcomer, this is the book required to get started giving you everything needed to create a character, understand the basics of the game, and get ready for your first session。 While there have been new supplements to come out since with additions to character creation, those books do not explain the process Player's Handbook by James Wyatt is the only Dungeons & Dragons book that all players will need to have read even a fraction of at some point。 Whether you are a seasoned veteran or a curious newcomer, this is the book required to get started giving you everything needed to create a character, understand the basics of the game, and get ready for your first session。 While there have been new supplements to come out since with additions to character creation, those books do not explain the process as concisely as James Wyatt does within this text。 It is straightforward, digestible, and makes the seemingly complicated rules and memorization of D&D mechanics easy to understand and far less daunting than it could be。 New players can find it online easily, but if you plan to stick around after dipping your toes in the pool, grab a hard copy of this and you won't be disappointed。TL;DR: This is the go-to Dungeons & Dragons book。 Absolutely essential for anyone。 。。。more

Did I play a couple of rounds of the game without reading this book? Yes。 Was it fun? Yes。 Do I have amazing teachers and the most patient Dungeon Master ever? Yes。 Would I start again without reading this book? No。 😅I literally read it from the first to the last page and some of the annex。 I don't think there's any other game instruction that is so much fun to read。 Okay, hands down, I skipped and skimmed some long lists but I now know where to look for these details if I need them。 It's a love Did I play a couple of rounds of the game without reading this book? I would give this book a 3。5 out of 5。 This book is the reason why I have so much fun with my friends。 However there are a few problems with it。 The main reason I dropped a whole star was because of how the book was made。 For some reason it was decided that if you buy this book in print form the pages would be glossed。 Idk about you guys but glossy pages give me a headache and make it hard to read when every light that hits it reflects back in your eyes。 I think that's just a poor design。 I drop I would give this book a 3。5 out of 5。 This book is the reason why I have so much fun with my friends。 However there are a few problems with it。 The main reason I dropped a whole star was because of how the book was made。 For some reason it was decided that if you buy this book in print form the pages would be glossed。 Idk about you guys but glossy pages give me a headache and make it hard to read when every light that hits it reflects back in your eyes。 I think that's just a poor design。 I dropped 。5 of a star due to the fact that a few paragraphs didn't make total sense。 It was like they were trying to get their idea across but it just didn't seem to hit the nail on the head。 Even dungeon master's I knew would have trouble understand a few things in the book because of how poorly the idea was articulated。 This book has so much information that it's hard to read back to back without feeling your brain swell。 Even so I still loved the book and all the wonderful rules written within that were needed to make this game。 I loved the extra lore too。 I just wish the pages weren't glossy。。。。。 。。。more

A decent version of the game, combat mechanics much simpler and cleaner than 4e。 I probably prefer Pathfinder, all else equal。

I have played DnD 5e for a good couple of years now, but since I'll soon have to run a campaign as a DM, I decided to finally read the Player's Handbook - and it was a really good decision。 I had already got to learn many of the rules just from playing, but the Player's Handbook really gives you a good overview of the rules and prepares you for playing the game as both a player and a DM。 It gives a thorough descriptions of the races and classes that you can play as, and the descriptions and beau I have played DnD 5e for a good couple of years now, but since I'll soon have to run a campaign as a DM, I decided to finally read the Player's Handbook - and it was a really good decision。 I had already got to learn many of the rules just from playing, but the Player's Handbook really gives you a good overview of the rules and prepares you for playing the game as both a player and a DM。 It gives a thorough descriptions of the races and classes that you can play as, and the descriptions and beautiful illustrations serve as excellent inspirations。 For example, I didn't know much about Gnomes or Druids before reading the book, but after having read it, I fell completely in love with that race and class, respectively, and plan on including them a lot in future campaigns。 I was also really fascinated by the DnD multiversal cosmology described in one of the appendices。 There are some elements not included in the Player's Handbook - e。g。 a list of fantasy creatures mounts and extended rules for wildlife survival。 It could have been really cool to have had these rules, but unfortunately, they have been place in the Dungeon Master's Guide。 However, for the most part, I think all the most important rules are featured in the book。 Definetely recommended reading for all DnD 5e players - even those who have played the game for a while and believe that they know everything they need to know already。 。。。more

I started with DnD last year and this handbooks clearly helps me!It explains the basic:Character building, races, classes and the rule of fighting and interacting for the player。 As well as a ton of spells and what the spells are doing。Must have for a starter。And next to the informations: it is full of beautifull drawings!

This is by far the most streamlined, user-friendly version of the Dungeons and Dragons rules, ever。 I grew up playing with version 2, which was quite quirky (THAC0 anyone?) and the last time I tried to read the player's handbook was for version 3。5, but I abandoned it halfway thorough - too complicated, too many rules。 From what I've heard version 4 was even worse。But behold。。。 version 5 goes back to the basics and makes roleplaying with the classic D&D universe fun again! Gone are all the complex rules, and this is evident everywhere。 To name a few examples: leveling up and multi-classing is straightforward and the experience tables are the same for all classes。 The advantage/disadvantage rolls are super intuitive and simple, the feats and backgrounds make it easy to build a main class enriched with abilities from other classes。 The proficiency system is practical and is applied consistently across many facets of your character。 The DCs are a quick way to determine outcomes, with no need for cumbersome rules for everything。 And the character classes, they're diverse and well balanced; growing in power at higher levels is a joy。The book itself is nicely bound with a sturdy cover made too last, with lots of nice, colorful hand-drawn images to set the mood。 Apart from the rules for character creation and combat there are a couple of chapters describing the cosmology and the gods and a list of inspirational reading material to get your imagination started。 I could go on。。。 just grab a few friends and play; you'll have a blast。 。。。more

Solid game mechanics, rulebook logically laid out (although not super well for in-game reference)。 Some of the rules and game play could have used more examples or explanation。 It would be tough to learn how to play the game just from this。 Although I suppose you would have a GM if all you had was a Player's Handbook to coach you along。 Perhaps the ambiguity is more of a feature than a bug to force new players to seek the GM's guidance。 Solid game mechanics, rulebook logically laid out (although not super well for in-game reference)。 Some of the rules and game play could have used more examples or explanation。 It would be tough to learn how to play the game just from this。 Although I suppose you would have a GM if all you had was a Player's Handbook to coach you along。 Perhaps the ambiguity is more of a feature than a bug to force new players to seek the GM's guidance。 。。。more

/shrug It's a handbook on how to play D&D 5th Edition? I haven't played much yet (started with a new group after we all got vaccinated this year), but the system seems fun to me。 The book is organized。。。 ok in my opinion。 I've found it can be a bit annoying to look up specific rules during gameplay, it feels more laid out to help with character creation than as a reference to use。 In many times it's been faster to just google the question on phones than try and look up via index on where a rule /shrug It's a handbook on how to play D&D 5th Edition?
